Chronomundi Displays Watches at UO Bookstores

Chronomundi has reached an agreement with the University of Oregon Bookstore to display the University of Oregon Chronometer at Duck Stores in Eugene and Portland. Now you can handle one of the watches prior to ordering online. The watches will be displayed at the campus store, 895 East 13th Avenue in Eugene, and the White Stag store, 70 Nortwest Couch Street in Portland.

Chronomundi Sponsors Oregon Club Event

The Oregon Club of Portland held their Signing Day Dinner on February 3, and Chronomundi was there as an event sponsor. Over 400 Oregon fans listened as the football coaching staff reviewed the 2010 recruiting class. Chronomundi donated a University of Oregon Homage Chronometer for the grand prize in "Quarterback Bingo," which raised almost $3,000 for the University.

Now that sales of the University of Oregon Homage Chronometer have begun, the University is benefitting directly. Like all University of Oregon licensees, Chronomundi pays a percenatge of every sale to the University for the use of the school's trademarks. Every watch sold benefits the University of Oregon directly.

Shipments Begin for Black Dial Watches!

The University of Oregon Homage Chronometers were expected to be delivered last summer. However, delays have been caused by German holidays (virtually all of August) and fine tuning of components. Cases, crowns, hands, crystals and straps are all produced. The black dials have been produced, but the green dials have been delayed because I'm really, really picky.

What Exactly is a Chronometer?

A chronometer, according to Webster, is a "timepiece; especially : one designed to keep time with great accuracy." Many watchmakers, but certainly not all, submit their chronometers to a testing body such as the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC) in Switzerland, Wempe in Glashütte, Germany, and Fleurier Quality Foundation in Fleurier, Switzerland. None of these entities produce, or even work on movements. The just test them against a standard, and issue a "pass or fail" on each individual movement.

The "guts" of any timepiece is the movement. The UO Homage Chronometer's movement is an ETA SA Manufacture Horlogère Suisse (ETA) 2824-2 automatic winding, twenty-five jewel movement. All University of Oregon Homage chronometers use the Chronometer-grade movement, ETA’s best of the line.
